No Good Thing Will God Withhold From You
For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. (Psalm 84:11 KJV)
Today’s scripture gives three assurances to those who walk upright, meaning those who live by God’s commandments and strive to do what is right: God protects us, provides us grace and glory, and never withholds any good thing from us. Let’s delve into the passage for a clearer understanding.

Understanding The Verse
- The verse uses a metaphor that God is our sun and shield. The sun symbolises light, meaning that God is our light. Psalm 27 reveals that we cannot be afraid of anyone because God is our light and salvation. It also discloses that the wicked stumbled and fell when they came against us. The shield symbolises protection and defence, meaning God is our protection and defence, shielding us from harm. Hence, God being our sun and shield means that God protects and defends us, ensuring our enemies stumble and fall when they come against us.
- The passage asserts that the Lord bestows us grace (favour) and glory (honour, splendour, and heavenly bliss), making us successful in everything we lay our hands on.
- Finally, the scripture assures us that God will never withhold any good thing from us. Put differently, He grants all your prayer requests for good things. This assurance enables us to pray confidently, knowing He will grant our requests.
To appropriate the assurances in the scripture, all you need to do is believe they are your portions. You must understand that God loves you so much. If He sacrificed His Son, Jesus, for you, what good thing could He withhold from you? Simply believe the assurances are for you, and God will protect you, make those who plan evil against you stumble and fall, bestow grace and glory to you, and give you any good thing you desire.
