Overcoming Unbelief For Extraordinary Miracles

The power of God can help you receive any miracle if you can conquer unbelief. Since nothing is impossible for those who believe, only unbelief can hinder people from having their desired miracles. This article teaches how you can overcome unbelief.

The Scripture

So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honour except in his own country and in his own house.”
Now , He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief. (Matthew 13:57-58 NKJV)

Understanding the Scripture

One day, Jesus went to preach in His hometown, Nazareth. The residents didn’t believe in Him because they were too familiar with Him. They knew Him from childhood and knew His mum and siblings. They found it difficult to believe that someone they knew so well could have wisdom and power from God. Thus, they questioned His source of knowledge and power and refused to believe in Him.

Jesus responded by saying that a prophet doesn’t have honour in his hometown and house. The scripture ends by stating that Jesus didn’t do many mighty works in His hometown because of their unbelief.

Implications of Unbelief

Although Jesus was filled with the Holy Ghost’s power and compassion, the scripture says He didn’t perform mighty miracles because of their unbelief. In other words, the unbelief of the residents of Nazareth made the power of the Holy Ghost in Jesus ineffective, hindering Him from performing many mighty works there.

Nothing hinders a miracle more than unbelief. Unfortunately, many people who don’t believe think they believe. Hence, it’s vital to look at the meaning.

What Does Unbelief Mean?

Unbelief, which means a lack of faith, is the inability of a person to believe that the power of God from a particular source can help them have their desired miracle at a given time. Put differently, someone who believes in God can still doubt that God can perform a miracle through a particular source. The residents of Nazareth believed in God but didn’t believe that God could use Jesus to perform miracles in their lives.

Similarly, many Christians believe in God but find it challenging to understand how God can use a particular person to perform miracles in their lives. So, such Christians may not experience many mighty miracles in their lives, not because they don’t believe in God, but because they don’t believe God could use a particular person to perform their desired miracles.

How to Conquer Unbelief

To overcome a lack of faith, you must first understand and believe that the heavens and earth did not exist on their own. God created them (Genesis 1:1).

It’s also essential to know that God is omnipotent, meaning nothing is difficult for Him to do. No situation is difficult for Him to overturn. Impossible is nothing to Him (Genesis 18:14).

Further, you must know that God loves you so much that He sacrificed His Son, Jesus, for your sake. Hence, He will not withhold any good thing from you (Psalm 84:11). He wants you to have your desired miracles.

Also, you have to believe that Jesus is the Son of God who came to save humanity and succeeded by sacrificing His life for us (Luke 1:35).

You have been saved if you have received Christ. In that case, you are a child of God, meaning God sees you the way He sees Jesus (1 John 3:2). Therefore, you have the right to speak a word, and it will happen.

Ask whatever you want, believing, and you shall have them in Jesus’ name (Mark 11:24).

Unbelief, which means a lack of faith, is the inability of a person to believe that the power of God from a particular source can help them have their desired miracle at a given time.

This is very true, most people don’t understand how God works. No wonder the Bible says except we become like little children we can not enter into the Kingdom. In other words we can’t receive anything from God.

Thank you sir for this write up.

I don’t think the skepticism of the residents of Nazareth rendered the Holy Spirit’s power in Jesus ineffective. I don’t believe that the power of the Holy Ghost is ever ineffective. I think it is always functioning. Jesus did not perform great miracles due to their limitations in belief. The power was present and functioning effectively, but their lack of faith prevented them from experiencing significant miracles Jesus had in store for them. Consequently, there was little Jesus could do for them; they essentially limited what He had to offer. This doesn’t imply that the power was ineffective. They withheld what Jesus had in store for them. That is my understanding.

I quote this passage from the article to draw a parallel: “Similarly, many Christians believe in God but find it challenging to understand how God can use a particular person to perform miracles in their lives. So, such Christians may not experience many mighty miracles in their lives, not because they don’t believe in God, but because they don’t believe God could use a particular person to perform their desired miracles.” Yes, so the power of God is still working despite them not believing and cannot be deemed ineffective. It’s their unbelief that is causing them to not access what is available. So if no mighty works are done in their lives, it’s because of their unbelief, their own limitations, not because the power of God was at any point ineffective.

By the way, the excerpt I just quoted from the article reflects my experience with the first church I attended in the UK. They refused to accept me as who God says I am and instead organised a bullying ceremony with the founder during a church service where he was present, so I would feel hurt and probably leave their church. It bothered them so much that God had made me who I am. The position they adopted is that they know better and they can be wicked. And they were indeed so wicked toward me. The way they treated me. Now it’s God turn to skip them. I skipped them.

Overall, this article serves as a powerful reminder that as Christians, we must always be believers who have faith in God’s power like Jesus. Thank you!

God’s love towards me is real. If God did not spare his only son but gave him up to die for me to live, then there is no good thing he will withhold from me. In the mist of my challenges, God please let me walk in this assurance that you are there for me and that I will always conquer. Selah!
