The ancient secret of prayer reveals that a person’s state of heart determines the success of the person’s prayers. Those whose hearts condemn during prayer don’t receive answers to their prayers, but those whose hearts don’t condemn receive answers to their prayers.

Today’s scripture is the scriptural reference for the ancient secret of prayer. The passage says that if our hearts do not condemn us, we will have confidence before God and receive whatever we ask. The passage implies that those who pray with confidence receive answers to their prayers, and those who pray without confidence don’t.

Further, the state of one’s heart determines whether a person will pray confidently. When a person’s heart doesn’t condemn them, they will have confidence in praying, leading to the success of their prayers. Contrarily, when a person’s heart condemns them, they won’t pray confidently, and the lack of confidence will nullify the prayer.

Today’s scripture also reveals what prevents our hearts from condemning us: keeping God’s commandments and doing the things that please Him. The passage ends by saying His commandment is to believe in Jesus and love one another. Believing in Jesus means to receive Christ as your Lord and Saviour. To love one another means doing something nice and sacrificial to someone who doesn’t deserve it, just as Christ sacrificed Himself for us when we didn’t deserve it.

Therefore, if you don’t want your heart to condemn you when you pray, receive Christ as your Lord and Saviour, do things that please God, and be nice to people, including those who don’t deserve it. As you do these things, your heart can’t condemn, causing you to pray with confidence, which, in turn, leads to the success of your prayers. It’s a secret, the ancient secret of prayer.

Interestingly, no one can manipulate their heart to prevent it from condemning them when they do something nasty. For example, when a man prays after fornicating, his heart will condemn him, and he will remember the fornication, automatically nullifying the prayer. So, if you want to pray confidently and have results, ensure you have Christ, do things that please God, and be nice to people who don’t deserve it.
