The Book Of Remembrance: Unravelling The Mystery
The Book of Remembrance is a record of memorable deeds. Everyone has such a book, but many are not aware of it because some people record their memorable deeds in the “book” of their minds. Although the Book of Remembrance can contain evil deeds that haven’t been forgiven, it mainly contains good deeds that need to be rewarded. Malachi 3:16-17reveals that God keeps the Book of Remembrance containing the deeds of those who fear Him and how He will reward them. This article will unravel the mystery and show how one can activate the remembrance of one’s good deeds and rewarded accordingly.
Scriptural Reference
On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the King Ahasuerus.
And the king said, What honour and dignity hath been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him. (Esther 6:1-3 KJV)
Exposition of The Scripture
The passage says that King Ahasuerus wanted to sleep but couldn’t. He then asked his servants to read the Book of Remembrance to him. While they read it, he realised that Mordecai’s good deed hadn’t been rewarded.
In verse 4, the king asked the servants to bring Haman, who was at the court. The king asked Haman what should be done for somebody who deserves an honour. Thinking the honour was for him, Haman said that the person should be dressed in the king’s royal apparel and crown and placed on the king’s horse. He also suggested that one of the king’s noble servants would lead the man into the open square of the city, proclaiming that the act was done to a man the king wanted to honour.
The king accepted his counsel and commanded him to dress Mordecai, Haman’s arch-enemy, in the king’s royal apparel and crown, lead him into the city square, and honour him, as he had advised.
The Mystery of The Book Of Remembrance
The mystery of the Book of Remembrance, exposed in today’s scripture, states that a person’s good deed will be remembered at the right time, leading to honouring and sparing their lives.
Haman had met the king to get permission to hang Mordecai on the gallows he had already prepared. But at the same time, the king lost sleep and asked his servants to read the Book of Remembrance, which made him realise the need to reward Mordecai. Since Haman was at the court, the king asked him to honour Mordecai, the person he wanted to kill.
The opening of the Book of Remembrance saved Mordecai from being hung on the gallows. Remarkably, if the king had asked his servants to open the book much earlier than that day, it wouldn’t have saved Mordecai’s life. Hence, the timing was just perfect.
Just as The Book of Remembrance led to a public honouring of Mordecai and the sparing of his life, Malachi 3:16-17 AMP says that God writes the Book of Remembrance to publicly recognise those who fear Him and spare them. Therefore, remembering a person’s good deed leads to honouring the person and sparing their life. It’s called the mystery of the Book of Remembrance.
How To Activate The Book of Remembrance
- The first step in making God or people remember your good deeds is to start doing good things. If you don’t do any good deeds, there will be nothing to remember.
- Praying for the remembrance of your good deeds is necessary. But please note there is a difference between asking God to remember you and asking Him to remember your good deeds. In this case, the proper prayer is asking Him to remember your good deeds.
- Understand that the time to remember your good deed must be perfect to save you. In other words, you don’t need to desire that your good deeds be remembered quickly. If the king had remembered Mordecai’s good deed much earlier, it wouldn’t have spared Mordecai’s life. So, it’s better to pray for the remembrance of your good deeds to happen at the right time.
