The Boundless Love of God: Does It Dwell In You?

The unlimited love of God is undoubtedly limited in the Christian community. Unfortunately, many who lack it think it dwells in them. This article reveals how to find out if the love of God dwells in a person and how to practise it genuinely.

Scriptural Reference

But whoever has the world’s goods (adequate resources) and sees his brother in need but has no compassion for him, how does the love of God live in him?
Little children (believers, dear ones), let us not love [merely in theory] with word or with tongue [giving lip service to compassion], but in action and in truth [in practice and in sincerity, because practical acts of love are more than words]. (1 John 3:17-18 AMP)

Discovering If the Love of God Dwells in You

Today’s scripture indicates one way to know that the love of God is in you: having compassion for people in need. Those who have compassion for people in need have the love of God, while those who have adequate resources but no compassion don’t. What does compassion mean? It means a feeling of concern and sympathy for those in need.

Anyone who claims the love of God is in them must sympathise with others and feel concerned regarding their pain, distress or hardship. Such a person must be willing to go out of their way to help those in need. So, if you sympathise with others and go out of your way to help them, you can boldly say that the love of God is in you.

How To Practise The Love of God Genuinely

Today’s scripture emphasises that God’s love is not in words but in practice. In other words, we should not show compassion by merely speaking to people affected but by practical acts of providing help for their needs.

Practical acts of love could include feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, or comforting the grieving. Talking to those in need is good, but we must go beyond speaking to furnishing their needs.

Therefore, if you meet someone in need and have enough resources, God wants you to have compassion for the person and help. God loves you so much that He sacrificed His Son, Jesus, to save you. Similarly, He expects you to show love to others by going out of your way to help them.
